With hindsite, the Forest support's analysis in the opening post is spot on!

Re: Michail Antonio
Love him.
Some of his threw balls of late have been sublime. That ball to Yarmolenko was exquisite.Think he did the same for one of Haller's goals before the break too.
If a city or Liverpool players had done this Shearer and co would of been creaming themselves for weeks

Re: Michail Antonio
Love antonio to bits but it has become something of a joke now when he cuts in from either flank and tries to shoot from the edge of the box with the ball ending up closer to the corner flag or a timid pea roller to the keeper.

Needs to look for a pass and get in the box more often, he seems to be far better when he's instinctive and has no time to think too much about his options. Something i always thought about harewood too

Not been a big fan so far, but thought he was starting to look good again before the break when he had another forward alongside him.

Re: Michail Antonio
No Sven, I can't see us ever making a success of Haller. Antonio may be shorter but he puts energy and determination into his game. Haller has neither of those attributes and it seems that his morose attitude spreads throughout the team when he is playing.

Sven

Yes precisely my thoughts. Bowen and Antonio could also switch wings in games. Would give defenders a nightmare.

Re: Michail Antonio
If we are just playing long balls up any decent centre half should have a height advantage over him.
His best position is wide right as he usually comes up against full backs who can’t handle his physicality but are needed to match him for pace.
If a centre half is shifted out they can’t handle his pace and movement

Ideally he and Bowen would flank Haller in a front 3

Re: Michail Antonio
I don't dislike him at all but I don't think any decent defenders would struggle against him. Let him have space and watch him run the ball off the pitch. He does have the occasional good game like vs Chelsea and he does always try hard, however.

Is like a smaller version of Jonah Lomu (RIP) running at you.....a nightmare for defenders!

Jimmy what about goalkeepers? I think they don't mind playing against him

Re: Michail Antonio
Attacking players can be judged by how much defenders enjoy playing against them, and I bet they absolutely hate playing against Antonio.

Re: Michail Antonio
my favourite player for us and has been for ages you really cant knock someone who gives 110 percent same with scott parker even when he went to spurs you could never hate him because he put his head and heart on the line, another one you could mention fornals i see him get alot of stick but if you actually watch him he doesent stop running and i put it down to wanting to perform so well as to why he has fluffed a few chances recently

Re: Michail Antonio
When players give it all on the pitch each and every game West Ham fans are forgiving if they come up a bit short as a player. Christian Daily, for example.

Antonio's ethic comes from, I'm sure, his rise from non-league. He probably still can't believe he's a prem footballer and has worked so hard in order to remain one.

Ian Wright was the same.

Anderson, however, believes he's so skilful he doesn't need to work hard. You can see plain as day that he has no commitment or indeed the slightest care about us.

Or maybe he looks around and thinks "this club is a fucking mess, I need to get out of here".

Re: Michail Antonio
That goal chance that he made for himself when it was 0-0 typifies him.

He feinted to play the ball to his left, Chelsea players they paid a load more money than we paid for him, bought it hook line and sinker, and he drove between the pair of them. If he had played a cross or a shot, instead of a mixture, we would have been one up a lot earlier. But the fact remains he's a player who makes things happen, and they are rare.

I get the feeling that some don't appreciate him because of where we got him from. Which is odd, because it's very difficult to find a West Ham fan who didn't appreciate Alan Devonshire.

Re: Michail Antonio
What works in his favour is his positive attitude and work ethic. It means fans are far more forgiving when he’s in a run of bad form. He’s the antithesis of Haller.

Re: Michail Antonio
The only time I've doubted Antonio is when he came back from injury too bulky - it wasn't fat, but you can have too much muscle. And he did.

Presumably, he was either left to decide how much gym work to do himself, which was a mistake, as you don't ask footballers to be expert physiotherapists, or he was told to do too much, which is a bigger mistake.

Re: Michail Antonio
Put his attitude in 11 players and you win a league.

Over the course of his time here he has targeted weaker areas of his game and worked relentlessly at improving them. The net result is a much better player now than the one we signed.

That is something all professionals should do as a matter of course but they don’t.

Obviously he had a good start in life with a mum who wouldn’t let him play for Haringey.

After we scored, I was dreading the ref calling play back and giving us a penalty, claiming the pea had fallen out of his whistle...

Re: Michail Antonio
Let's hope he can stay fit the monumental effort he puts in to each match must eventually take its toll.
I've always rated him and wanted Bilic to give him a chance long before he picked him.
Puts more effort in one match than Anderson puts in a season.
